Filing and Expansion of Eligibility Due to COVID-19
DWD will interpret, consistent with federal law, Indiana's unemployment laws to provide benefits to claimants displaced by COVID-19
DWD will not assess employers experience rate penalties for claims related to COVID-19. (If an employee is laid for reasons related to COVID-19, the employer should state such. It benefits both the employee and the employer.)
If a claim is due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic, DWD will not deny the claimant's benefits for that reason.
DWD will permit individuals to continue to accrue unemployment eligibility if they elect to take leave due to COVID-19.
DWD is seeking federal authorization to provide unemployment benefits to those individuals who may not otherwise be eligible for UI benefits because they were short-term employees who now find themselves out of work due to COVID-19.
